SME Oyster uses a SME V with a SME 10 turntable. Notice the left hand side when he is using a lump of blue tac to fix the platter in a standstill before aligning the cartridge. The Centre Metal Ring of the turntable need to be removed before placing the template to make sure it sit flat on the platter. |

| A Note to SME V
Tonearms: The SME type tonearm presents a challenge. 1. SME tonearm only have 2 small bore holes at the headshell for attaching the cartridge. Unlike some other arms which give a slot at the headshell SME tonearms do not allow "Effective Length" adjustment. 2. Arc-type Protractor, which is a design used by my Best Tractor, gives a prescribed "Effective Length" arc for the user to get the exact measure. This is the most critical part of the Tractor. This means if the tonearm does not allow effective length adjustment then the Tractor will not do its job. |

| However, I do have some
experience in dealing with such design but I need some
user input. SME assumes that the stylus tip to Mounting Hole distance as 9.5mm. The user needs to help me to find out from the Cartridge factory the measure on : cartridge stylus to mounting holes distance. Or you can measure it yourself just like I do. However this will not be very accurate. For instance I have to assume the above cartridge to have 9.5mm stylus tip to Mounting Hole distance. After getting this distance then I can work out something for you. |
